Arch Constantine and the Colliseum

Approaching the Colliseum and the Arch of Constantine.

As with many of the ancient Roman structures, pieces of the Arch were removed for use in Christian structures shortly after it became the official religion of the empire. However, the remander if it was saved because of Constantine's conversion to Christianity.

While waiting in line to enter the Colliseum, I got a great close up look at the arches that support the structure.

They are currently renovating and excavating the tunnels where animals and gladiators were located beneath the fighting.
