Orvieto Photos

The Church of Sant' Andrea was first built in the 6th century on the location of an ancient Etruscan sacred area.  The church has a twelve-sided bell tower and was renovated on the exterior in the early 20th century.

The Tower of Maurizio is topped with a 14th century automaton the strikes the bells on the hour.

The Orvieto Cathedral is the highest point on the city.  They began building it in 1290 AD on the foundation of an Etruscan temple.  The exteriors is completely covered in mosaic and relief artwork.

The interior of the cathedral

The condition of the interior is a bit deteriorated with some stained glass not replaced and frescoes that are in the process of being restored.
