The Basilica Santa Croce is a Florentine Gothic church that was built between 1294-1442 and covered in white and green marble in 1874.
The Franciscan order living in the church worked as scribes to complete illuminated manuscripts.
When I was standing in the square, I noticed an arch that seemed out of place. It seemed old, but at the same time made of a material that appeared too new for the surrounding architecture. I went over and read the description which I posted below. It is a replica of one of the recently destroyed arches from Palmira, Syria. The arch was created with the lastest archaeology technology and several have been placed throughout the world to bring awareness.
